Assessment

Ensuring that your child is making excellent progress is one of our teachers’ top priorities and to support them in this aim our teachers make good use of assessment information.

We formally assess children’s progress and attainment using PiXL (Partners in Excellence) at data capture points throughout the year. Using this data, helps teachers to identify starting points and gaps in every child’s knowledge and skills. With this information they are able to plan and tailor their approach to support each child’s learning.

Children are assessed against age related expectations (ARE) which are statements describing what they should be able to do by the end of each year. We judge whether children are at one of three stages in their learning:

  • Working towards the expected standard
  • Working at the expected standard
  • Working at greater depth within the expected standard
