Difference Makers
At Brooklands we believe in the power of individuals to make a difference.
Climate activist Greta Thunberg is inspiring youth around the world to become “eco- warriors” and here at Brooklands we are experiencing our own “Thunberg Effect”.
Difference Makers, however, do not have to be famous. Difference Makers can be parents, coaches, or good friends. Qualities that can make someone a Difference Maker include determination, leadership, teamwork, inspiration, courage, excellence, integrity, generosity, and compassion.
At Brooklands we believe that children need to start learning about the challenges facing our planet and society as young as possible. If they are brought up understanding that we all share responsibility they are more likely to grow up as socially responsible citizens who care about finding solutions and having a positive impact on their community. To this end we work hard to offer a curriculum that provides hands-on opportunities for our children to learn about the world around them and bring about positive change.
The ways our children are creating a positive change in our community and beyond include volunteering their time to help give back to their community. Raising funds for local charities that the children have identified that they would like to support.
Highlighting our responsibility for the local area, the school has its own litter picker sticks that are regularly put into service on trips out in the community .
Being kind to each other and our neighbours, especially for people who are vulnerable or struggling. Whether through small steps or large acts, Brooklands’ Difference Makers are helping to make a more sustainable, kinder society, improving their our own mental health and well-being as well as that of others.
